HOTEL at the BAKKER
Warmly welcome to our unique, small-scale family hotel and museum. Our boutique hotel is located in the center of the beautiful dune village of Burgh-Haamstede. In addition to the hotel, we have also been running a bakery (Bakkerij Sonnemans) for four generations. The hotel is located at Achterweg 9, behind the bakery. When you walk into the museum from the terrace, past Sonnemans, you'll feel like you've stepped back in time.
The Museum
While enjoying a cup of coffee and something delicious (available for takeout at the bakery counter), you can admire the collection that the baker has gathered over the years.
Entrance to the museum is free.
Tip: ask in the bakery if the baker has time for a tour!
Museum Themes
1.) Schouwen-Duiveland - the final war year 1944/1945 - true stories from local island residents.
2.) Grandmother's Time - various attic finds from the hotel/bakery dating back to 1800.
The museum is categorized as a day-catering establishment and closes at 5:00 p.m.

The hotel
The romantic, antique-style hotel rooms are located above the museum. After museum closing time, you can access them via a separate entrance with a staircase. Unfortunately, this is a rather steep, old-fashioned staircase and therefore not easily accessible for people with walking difficulties. We apologize for this, but we cannot change it.
The hotel also has a peaceful, spacious inner courtyard where you can relax.
In front of the hotel is the square/terrace of the bakery. Here you can enjoy the sun all day long. If it gets too warm in midsummer, our beautiful sycamore tree on the square provides delicious shade.
Next to the bakery is another terrace, the "Tea Garden". You are also welcome to stay here all day. Opposite the Tea Garden, you can walk into the Zeepeduinen (3 minutes) via the Duinweggetje path. Here you will find various walking routes.

* Minimum stay 2 nights. (The booking system does not accept bookings for one night)
* Monday and Tuesday hotel and bakery closed.

Breakfast
Staying with the baker..., this means waking up to the smell of freshly baked bread!
Per person, you will receive fresh rolls including croissants, a cup of coffee or tea, a glass of fruit juice, butter, toppings and boiled eggs. This will be waiting for you in the Bruynzeel kitchenette from 1937 in the bakery.
All our bread is made by hand, (with love) crafted traditionally. Our wheat comes from this island and is milled by windmill "De Hoop" in Zierikzee.
